The short version
Open the customer, find the Billing contacts card and add a name and an email. You can add up to 5. The send dialog puts them in Copies, and you can still change that for each invoice.
What billing contacts are
A billing contact is someone else at your customer who should see the invoice, such as an accountant or a finance team. They get a copy of each invoice you send. The customer still gets the invoice as before.
Add and remove contacts
Open the customer. On the Billing contacts card, type an email, add a name if you like (it is optional) and choose Add contact. To take someone off, choose Remove next to them.
A customer can have up to 5 billing contacts. That is the most an email can copy. When you reach it, the card says so and the form goes away until you remove one.
How the send dialog uses them
When you send an invoice, the send dialog fills Copies with the customer's billing contacts. You can still add or remove addresses there for this one invoice. The dialog allows up to 5 in Copies. Changing Copies in the dialog does not change the contacts saved on the customer.
After sending, the invoice activity lists who got copies.
What they do not receive
Billing contacts only get copies of the invoice email when you send it. They are not copied on:
- reminders
- receipts
- estimates
- credit notes
