The short version
Your customer selects Pay by card on the invoice page. The money is paid straight to your Stripe account. Timelydo takes 0.5 percent of the payment, and you pay the card fee to Stripe. Nothing is added to what your customer pays.
How your customer pays
Your customer opens the invoice link from the email. The page shows the amount due. They select Pay by card and a secure Stripe form opens (a sheet on a phone). They enter their card, pay, and the page shows the invoice as paid.
There is no redirect and no account to create. Only methods that finish on the page are offered. If the confirmation is slow, the page says so after about 20 seconds and asks your customer not to pay again.
If the card is declined, your customer can try another card on the same payment.
With a payment plan, the page asks for what is due now and offers Pay all next to it.
Where the money goes
Card payments are settled on your own Stripe account. Stripe pays them out to your bank on your payout schedule. Timelydo never holds your money.
You need a connected Stripe account that can take payments to send an invoice at all. See Getting started with invoicing.
What it costs
| Fee | Who pays | How much |
|---|---|---|
| Timelydo platform fee | You | 0.5 percent of each card payment |
| Stripe card fee | You | Set by Stripe. It depends on your country and the card. |
| Anything extra for the customer | Nobody | Not offered |
Example: your customer pays an invoice of 1,000.00. Timelydo takes 5.00. Stripe takes its own card fee. The rest reaches your Stripe balance.
Look up the current card rates for your country on the Stripe pricing page. Stripe does not refund its card fee when a payment is refunded later.
After the payment
- Your customer gets a receipt email from Timelydo. Stripe does not send a second one.
- You get an Invoice paid notice in the notification bell. Your very first payment of any kind also gets a congratulations email.
- The invoice shows as Paid (or Partly paid) and the payment appears under Payments on the invoice page. The activity timeline adds the payment.
- The payment is listed on the Payments page as Invoice, followed by the invoice number, with a link to the invoice.
Everything is settled from Stripe, never from your customer's browser, so the invoice only turns paid once Stripe confirms the money.
When card payment is not available
If your Stripe account is not connected, still needs details, or has been restricted, your customer cannot pay by card. They see You cannot pay this invoice online right now and a line asking them to contact the sender. They never see the reason.
You see the real reason on the invoice page, in a box titled Customers cannot pay this by card, with a link to fix it. If you set payment instructions in Invoice settings, your customer sees those too, for a bank transfer.
You can still use Record a payment for money you receive another way.
A card payment the invoice cannot take
Sometimes a card payment arrives when the invoice cannot take it. For example, you recorded a bank transfer a minute earlier, or the invoice was voided, or the payment is more than is due. Timelydo refunds that payment in full, automatically, and Timelydo's fee goes back with it. Your customer is not charged for nothing.
